What Does an Air Purifier Capture?
It’s a question that I receive daily and one that I’m all too happy to answer. Think of an air purifier as any easy to setup and maneuver source of relief from any number of allergens. You may not always be able to see dust or pollen circulating in the air, but you sure can feel their presence when left unchecked. Honeywell Air Purifiers are designed to offer immediate relief from airborne allergens and particles that may influence the air you breathe. This holds especially true in the summer as outdoor influences such as a higher pollen count via natural plant growth can turn your home into an allergy sufferer's nightmare.
How does an air purifier work?
Air purifiers implement a fan design that pulls in the surrounding air. The air will then pass through the air purifier’s filter. You can liken an air purifier's filter as a line of defense as it will immediately capture airborne particles drawn into the unit. Removing airborne allergens from the air passing through its filter, the air purifier will release a steady flow of comforting and breathable air. It’s a very straightforward process designed to efficiently alleviate a setting of airborne allergens.
What will an air purifier remove from the air?
As for the actual airborne allergens and particles an air purifier can capture, it’s best to look at the air purifier’s filter. Genuine Honeywell HEPA Filters will capture 99.97% of airborne particles at 0.3 microns from the air. The latter number is the one we’ll be focusing on here as the 0.3 micron minimum presents a significant line of defense that many airborne allergens simply will not pass.
Pollen can be a huge hindrance as it can be released from so many sources, especially in the spring and summer. Moving from plant to plant by way of the wind, birds, insects, pets and everything in between makes it difficult to escape. It’s why you’ll find a lot of weather apps using a pollen level indicator. Allergy producing pollen typically runs anywhere bet ween 10 to 25 microns in size. Honeywell HEPA Air Purifier will begin capturing at 0.3 microns. Being able to capture pollen with such efficiency makes the use of a HEPA Air Purifier even more appealing.
Dust will be a natural agitator regardless of the season. Similar to pollen, it’s ability to travel makes it challenging to keep at bay. It can easily attach to our clothes, our pets, even an open window is an invitation for dust. The typical size for allergy producing dust is 5 microns. Again, it’s something that a Honeywell HEPA Air Purifier will have no problems in capturing from the air. Watch out for surfaces though as an air purifier won’t pull in dust that’s already settled.
Mold Spores are another common agitator that can easily spread outdoors as well as indoors. Outdoor mold spores can be found on just about anything including plants and trees. High humidity conditions outdoors such as a summer storm can increase the likelihood of mold spores traveling. It’s also a problem indoors as mold can grow on a ceiling tile, near a window or anywhere that features a lot of moisture. Mold spores will typically measure between 4 and 20 microns, allowing them to be easily captured when entering a Honeywell HEPA Air Purifier
Pet Dander is a prime allergy source that may be worsened by how active your pet/s are. Unlike the natural spreading of pollen, dust and mold spores, pet dander is able to move from room to room with your pet. Pet dander consists of skin flakes that are continually shed. Similar to pet hair, it can easily stick onto furniture and clothing. Pet dander has a large sizing scale between 2.5 and 100 microns. When you factor in how pets can also collect the aforementioned allergens, a Honeywell HEPA Air Purifier's 0.3 minimum makes it a great addition for pet owners.
Smoke is another common airborne allergen that can really test your quality of life. Tobacco smoke in particular can be efficiently captured by Honeywell HEPA Air Purifiers. The AHAM (Association of Home Appliance Manufacturers) score is really the key to targeting and removing smoke. You’ll want to choose an air purifier that’s capable of capturing smoke in the room you’ve selected. All Honeywell Air Purifiers feature a score that reveal its effectiveness in handling tobacco smoke based on room size.
