Looks good next to my iMac |
| I got this primarily to get a reading for the outside temp. It has a separate, wireless monitor that I placed outside my window (between the window and the screen). Interestingly, I find that I use it just as often to check the indoor humidity. Because I live in an apartment, it oftentimes gets dry in the winter, so if I see it falls below 40% humidity (the device shows a little frown face), then I run my humidifier. The design is also neat and simple, and looks similar to my iMac. Only feature missing is backlight. |
Honeywell TM005X Good Product |
| The receiving station is small and attractive, and features a display with adjustable brightness to make it easy to read. It quickly established the connection with the remote sending unit and the atomic clock. The remote sending unit and the base unit agreed very closely when we set them up together to evaluate how well they measure temperature. |
very pleased |
| It is very easy to read from across the room which is what we were looking for. I also like the silver and black color that it comes in. We also bought one for my sister-in-law and she is also very happy with hers |
Works as advertised, with a couple minor complaints |
| This unit performs well. I've had it for about a month, and the remote sensor works well. The only minor issues I've noticed are:
-The base unit supports 3 remote monitoring channels. You have to click through each channel to see the remote unit temperature. Most people will only have one remote unit, so why can't I configure the base unit to ignore the other two channels? It's time consuming to always click through the two blank channels. -No AC adapter. You will always need a steady supply of batteries, especially for the remote unit. Batteries die quicker in cold temperatures. -There are four little screws on the remote unit used to create a water tight seal. They are annoying to remove and replace each time the battery dies. -The base unit must be rebooted when you change batteries in the remote unit in order to reliably find the remote unit. The directions warn you about always starting the remote unit before the base unit. |
accurate, while it lasts |
| The product worked as advertised for 4 months. Now it displays a temperature about 4 degrees higher than it actually is, or sometimes a random value. Quality control? The remote sensors you can add are a little annoying to use, since their readings are not simultaneously displayed, you need to click a button every time you want to read them. |
Q: WHAT SHOULD I DO DURING AN INITIAL PRODUCT SETUP?
A: Remove the protective plastic screen (if any) from the LCD displays.
Insert the batteries into the remote sensor first then insert batteries into the main unit.
During initial setup in order to work properly, all remote sensors must have the batteries installed before the main unit.
DO NOT PRESS ANY BUTTONS FOR A COUPLE OF MINUTES.
During this time the main unit and remote sensor will start to communicate to each other and the main unit will show both the indoor readings and remote readings.
Q: WHERE DO I PLACE A REMOTE SENSOR?
A: Please, place the remote sensor in the area you intent to measure environment conditions.
Example: If you wish measuring an outdoor environment conditions, place the remote sensor outdoors. If you wish measuring an attic environment conditions, place the remote sensor to the attic, and etc.
Outdoors the remote sensor should be placed in a dryer, shaded area. Fog and mist will not harm the remote sensor but direct rain must be avoided.
The remote sensor has operating range of up to 100 feet in an open area. Any walls or other obstacles will reduce this distance.
Q: WHAT DOES THE COMFORT LEVEL INDICATOR MEAN?
A: The Wireless Thermo-Hygrometer is capable of detecting and displaying the present comfort levels for the surrounding environment. The environmental comfort level is detected, interpreted and displayed on the main unit’s display based on the combination of the current indoor and remote temperature and humidity readings. The four following comfort levels may be shown: comfort, wet, dry and No Indicator. See manual for level ranges and descriptions
Q: HOW LONG WILL THE BATTERIES LAST IN THE UNIT?
A: The average battery life in the device is 12 months.
Q: WHAT SHOULD I DO IF COMMUNICATION BETWEEN THE SENSOR AND MAIN UNIT IS LOST?
A: If the main unit display mode for the remote sensor reading shows dashes (- - -), press and hold the SEARCH button for 2 seconds to begin a new signal search (the signal search icon will flash above the remote channel number).
If the signal isn’t received within two minutes, please make sure that:
• The remote sensor is in its proper location.
• The distance between main unit and remote sensor is not over 100 feet (30meters).
• The path between units is clear of obstacles. Shorten the distance if necessary.
• Fresh batteries are installed correctly in both remote sensor and main unit.
• Batteries were inserted into the remote unit first and the main unit next.
If there is still no communication, please perform the following steps:
• Bring the main unit and remote sensor close together.
• Remove the four (4) small screws from the back of the remote sensor with a small Phillips screwdriver and open the battery compartment.
• Remove the batteries from the battery compartment and reinstall them in the same manner. Remote sensor LED indicator will flash showing transmission of the signal.
• Remove the batteries from the main unit and reinstall them in the same manner.
• The remote temperature appeared on the main unit’s display will show that transmission is being received successfully.
