Stay alert to conditions that affect you with The Honeywell RN507W weather/all-hazard radio. This product is a Public Alert Certified device, making it invaluable for alerting you to any weather conditions in your area. In order to receive information that is relevant to you, the unit offers S.A.M.E. technology (Specific Area Message Encoding), which preprograms the device to receive only those warnings that apply to your local area--you can choose state, county, and/or nearby counties. This device supports both AM and FM signals, and features an atomic clock providing the most accurate form of time keeping available. This unit automatically receives radio signals from the U.S. Atomic Clock in Fort Collins, Colorado. Not only does this consistently adjust the clock to within one second of official U.S. government, but automatically adjusts the time for Daylight Savings Time as well.
A light sensor detects low light conditions and lights up the LCD Display. The indoor temperature is displayed in either C or F. Includes an AC Adapter, or you can use a battery back up with 4 AA Batteries (not included). This product is backed by Honeywell, and includes a 1 year warranty.

Worst Of The Lot |
| I own 8 portable weather radios presently. Add to that figure the half dozen or so that I have held and tested at stores and such, and that would be considered by some to be quite a resume. This Honeywell unit is by far the very worst I have ever tested. I got a chance to check it out at a local electronics dealer here recently. Its not only rather large, but as ugly and ungainly as it appears in the picture. Its volume on weather is locked at a very loud minimum and cannot be adjusted lower. The only other radio I ever ran into that did that was a cheap Emerson model still available on Amazon. At least that radio had the dignity of being offered for only about 1/4 the price of this unit as an excuse for such a terrible feature. As far as the AM FM it was no better than any other cheap radio I have heard. I was told by a sympathetic sales clerk that every person who has bought this radio, (and didn't return it) said it was the worst on batteries of any radio they have ever owned. It drains the juice on them like you get them for free. Finally, the price of this unit is simply outrageous. There are not only far cheaper AM FM weather radios to be had on Amazon, but also far better ones. And I mean FAR better ones. Don't buy this radio. In fact if you see it anywhere, run away. They don't come off any bigger or deeper as far as giving you the total shaft. |
Great for what it is intended! Alerts! |
| I bought this radio from Office Max and I could not be happier with it. I did not buy this radio to listen to FM or AM. I bought it to alert me about severe weather conditions! It has been doing that job very well. AND IT HAS THE VOLUME TO DO IT! THAT IS WHAT THEY WERE THINKING ABOUT WHEN THEY DESIGNED IT! Great Product Honeywell. |
Horrible design - What were they thinking? |
| This product has been rendered useless because of its design. The NOAA weather reports (which are the only reason you'd buy it in the first place) BLARE out of the radio. You cannot lower the volume to anything approaching a reasonable level. A call to their tech support line confirmed this design flaw. I was advised to hook up my own external speakers to it that can control the volume. That ruins the "portable" feature of the radio. My opinion - avoid this horribly designed weather alert radio. |
Honeywell RN507W NOAA Weather Alert/All Hazard FM Radio with S.A.M.E |
| Not a bad weather alert product, a little difficult to set up and sometimes the warnings do not self announce. Honeywell could have made this a little better product, so a little disappointed in the over all quality of this radio. |
Q: WHAT SHOULD I DO DURING INITIAL PRODUCT SET UP?
A: • Remove the protective plastic screen (if any) from the LCD displays.
• Insert batteries into the battery compartment
• Connect AC/DC adapter to the radio AC/DC adapter input located on the bottom of the radio
• Extend the antenna
• During this time the NOAA receiver will start automatically searching for the strongest available NOAA frequency channel and will lock up on it showing that channel number.
• Set your Time Zone
• Place your radio by the window and overnight it should pickup Atomic Time Signal.
Q: MY RN507 WEATHER RADIO DISPLAY INDICATES “CHECK OP’ OR “SIGNAL LOSS” ON THE SCREEN, WHAT DO I DO?
A: “CHECK OP” message may appear by 2 reasons: one – is due to NOAA signal loss, another – if the radio programming was not done correctly or not finished completely.
1. The easiest way to improve radio reception is to move the main display unit closer to a window. This should improve the signal strength and radio reception.
However, in some locations due to mountains or conditions that can impact reception you may need to consider an auxiliary external antenna. Radio Shack has a variety of WX (Weather) Band antennas to choose from. For example, you might consider the Magnet-Mount CB Antenna 21-801 with WX (Weather) Band.
2. Make sure when during the radio programming you selected “SINGLE” or “MULTIPLE” location that an appropriate county (counties) with FIPS codes are entered.
Q: WHILE PROGRAMMING THE WATCHES/WARNINGS/ADVISORIES I NOTED THAT WARNINGS SETTING SKIP TORNADO WARNING. THERE IS A TORNADO WATCH SETTING. WHY IT IS MISSING FROM THE SETTINGS?
A: There are several NOAA events that are mandatory for the weather radio to be enabled at all times. The TORNADO WARNING is one of these events, so it cannot be disabled or deleted. This is why you do not see this event on the list of the events that can be deleted or changed.
Q: MY RN507 WEATHER RADIO RECEIVED WEEKLY TEST AND IT STAYED ON THE DISPLAY. HOW CAN I CLEAR THIS MESSAGE FROM THE DISPLAY?
A: The user cannot manually clear any of the messages received from NOAA. The duration of each message is programmed into the message and it will stay on the display as long as it is programmed for. To learn more about the NOAA events and NOAA operations please go to NOAA website using this link: http://www.nws.noaa.gov/nwr/indexnw.htm
Q: HOW DO I SET THE TIME ZONE ON MY RN507?
A: Press and UP/ZONE/12/24/ button located on the back of the radio until the highlighted portion on the US Time Zone map will start moving from left to right. Once your desired Time Zone is selected, release the UP/ZONE/12/24 button and Time Zone will be set.
Q: HOW DO I SET THE TIME ALARM?
A: The Atomic Clock Radio has two time alarms. If any of the alarms is activated, it will sound at the set time and the alarm icon will flash. Also, you can select the alarm in radio sound or beep (bell) sound by switching to the desired position.

Q: HOW DO I DISABLE THE TIME ALARM?
A: Slide the alarm switch to the OFF position, alarms will be disabled and the alarm icons will disappear from the display.
Q: WHERE IS THE US ATOMIC CLOCK LOCATED?
A: US Atomic clock is located at Fort Collins outside Boulder, Colorado, and is operated by the US Government
Q: WILL MY ATOMIC TIME UNIT WORK IN ALASKA AND HAWAII?
A: If used in Alaska and Hawaii, the Atomic Time clocks will not receive the RF signal from the US Atomic Clock during the normal daylight hours. The 50kW radio signal transmitted at 60 kHz frequency covers the Continental United States (CONUS) and reaches parts of Alaska and Hawaii during the night-time hours. However, this clock can be set manually if the signal from Boulder, Colorado is not able to reach the locations that geographically are not in the US Atomic Clock Time Signal coverage area.
Q: HOW DO I DISABLE/ENABLE ATOMIC TIME SIGNAL RECEPTION MANUALLY?
A: • Press and hold UP arrow button for 3 seconds and the atomic time radio reception icon located above the seconds will disappear.
• Press and hold UP arrow button for 3 seconds again enabling atomic time radio receiver. The radio reception icon will start flashing showing that the unit is searching for the atomic time signal.
Q: MY RN507 DID NOT RECEIVE ATOMIC TIME SIGNAL DURING INITIAL SETUP. HOW THIS CAN BE FIXED?
A: Please, consider the following when atomic time is not set during the initial setup:
• During night-time hours, atmospheric conditions improve radio signal reception. A single daily reception is sufficient enough to keep the clock accuracy within milliseconds.
• Unit should be positioned 8 feet (2 meters) from interference sources such as a TV, computer, microwave, etc.
• The signal reception is weakened within concrete walls found in basements or office buildings. Place the unit near the window for best reception.
Once the atomic time signal is received, the date and time will be set automatically, and the atomic time reception icon will appear.
Your unit’s atomic clock is programmed to search for the atomic time signal daily each hour between 1:00 am and 4:30 am. Once the time signal has been successfully received, the time and date will be updated automatically.
Q: HOW DO I ACTIVATE THE BACKLIGHT?
A: You can activate the backlight for a short time period by pressing LIGHT/SNOOZE button on the top or continuously, if the AC/DC adapter is connected to the wall power outlet.
Q: HOW LONG DOES THE BACKLIGHT STAY ON?
A: The backlight will stay on for 5-6 seconds if the LIGHT/SNOOZE button is pressed.
Q: HOW LONG WILL THE BATTERIES LAST IN THE MAIN UNIT?
A: The average battery life in the device is 3 days if unit will work only on the batteries Keep RN507W connected to the wall power outlet through AC/DC adapter provided.
